What brought you into General Practice & Private Medicine?

My broad training and growing up with my father as a GP gave me inspiration to use my skills in the private sector to practice Anaesthesia, General Practice and the treatment of iron deficiency.

What are you main areas of clinical interest or expertise?

I would say cardiology, complex general medical & women’s health especially related to iron deficiency.

Are there particular conditions or types of patients you especially enjoy working with?

I genuinely enjoy the challenge that each individual brings to a consult and I love spending time with patients to try and look at them as a whole.

Are there areas where you have developed significant experience beyond general practice?

(My experience as above)

Are there particular procedures, treatments or services you regularly provide?

Iron infusions

Is there an area of medicine you have become particularly passionate about during your career? Why?

Iron deficiency & iron deficiency anaemia – I really feel that this is a common medical disorder which is widely underdiagnosed & recognised by most healthcare professionals yet has such a significant impact on the lives of those who have it plus it is so easily treatable. I see such patients both in my NHS & Private practice and such a simple intervention once diagnosis is confirmed, can have a life changing effect.

How would you describe your approach to looking after patients?

I take a holistic, patient-centred approach to care. I listen carefully to the patient’s story, consider the wider biological, psychological and social context, and ensure my assessment and investigations are thorough so that nothing is missed. I try to communicate with empathy and clarity, involving patients in decisions so that their values and preferences shape the plan.

What do you think makes an excellent GP?

I believe an excellent GP is first and foremost a skilled generalist who can assess undifferentiated problems thoroughly, manage uncertainty and risk safely, and know when to seek help or refer. Equally important is the relationship: listening carefully, communicating with empathy and involving patients in shared decisions so that their values and circumstances shape the plan. Excellent GPs also offer continuity of care, advocate for their patients, and keep learning, reflecting on their practice and working well within the wider team.

What do you enjoy the most about being a doctor?

What I enjoy most about being a doctor is that I genuinely like helping people and interacting with them. Every day I meet people from different backgrounds, often at a vulnerable time, and I find it deeply rewarding to listen, put them at ease and make a real difference, whether that is reaching a diagnosis, explaining something clearly or simply offering reassurance. I also enjoy the intellectual challenge of piecing together the whole picture, so the work lets me combine thoughtful problem-solving with human connection.

How important is continuity of care and getting to know your patients over time?

I believe continuity of care is extremely important, and it is one of the aspects of general practice I value most especially watching my father as a GP when I was growing up.  Knowing a patient over time builds trust, which makes people more willing to share sensitive concerns and more likely to engage with advice. It also makes me a safer and more efficient clinician, because I understand their baseline, their family and social context and their preferences, so I can notice subtle changes and avoid unnecessary investigations.

What would you like a new patient to know about what it is like to have a consultation with you?

I would like a new patient to know that when they see me, they will have my full attention. I start by listening to their story and their concerns, and I try to understand the whole picture, including how the problem is affecting their life. I then carry out a thorough, careful assessment, explain my thinking in plain language and agree a plan together, so that they feel involved rather than simply told what to do. I want people to feel comfortable raising anything, including sensitive issues, and to leave with clear next steps and a safety net, knowing when and how to come back. Above all, I hope they feel respected, reassured and confident that they are in safe hands.

What do you enjoy doing outside of medicine?

I love spending time with my family – I have 2 teenage children which is both enjoyable and challenging! We travel within the UK and have been abroad as well – it’s always fascinating discovering the places I have been to again through their eyes. I also have 2 gorgeous dogs who form a large part of my home therapy & relaxation with unconditional love returned! I play tennis regularly and attend reformer pilates twice per week. I enjoy fine dining and entertainment such as cinema, theatre & opera. Music is a large part of my life whether it’s listening to my favourite genres & bands, singing or going to concerts. I also like to be at one with nature and often relish a long walk on the heath whatever the weather!
